Spotlight for Author Constance Williams

Image

Synopsis:
Everyone loves a good mystery – and Sam Gardener is certainly one of those. Abruptly pulled from school years before, nobody has seen or heard from him since – until now. Returning to high school for his senior year, he is not the same friendly boy his classmates remember, and the rumors are flying. None, however, come close to the truth. The bearer of a strange and frightening supernatural ability, Sam strives to regain control of his life.

Along with some unlikely new friends with secrets of their own, Sam learns that his own mystery is only the tip of the iceberg in the quaint town of Witch Lake. With their help, he must learn the strength of his own gift, and lose the fear that comes with it. With their help, he can stand against the gathering darkness. Together, they can face the truth of Witch Lake, but alone? They will be lost beneath the surface, drowning in depths none could foresee.

About the Author:
Constance wrote her first book at the age of five. Written in crayon and bound together with string, it was most certainly not a best seller! It was, though, the start of a lifelong love of the written word.

These days, Constance spends some of her time at her perfectly normal day job on the English coast and the rest of her time exploring the mountains of her mind. The view is quite excellent in both places.

She has found that writing is a constant battle between herself and her cat as to who gets use of the keyboard. Apparently it makes a very comfortable bed.

Review of Fire in the Darkness

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Fire in the Darkness
Review of Fantasy

(3rd Review for August)

While often reading the  first book in a sequel, it’s spell binding but the second book in a sequel always lacks something, maybe we love learning about the worlds we are about to jump into, bending our heads to see around corners. Normally in a second book the plot is laid out and now we shall follow through. But with Fire in the Darkness it is SO NOT what happens, I really thought I would be able to predict everything but I can’t I am yet again left screaming for the next instalment. I don’t know who to trust, I don’t know what’s even real at times. The plot has thickened and has delved into the dark side. I found myself hanging on to the edge of my seat, or feeling heartbroken or drained at all the deceit on Ember. This book exceeded my expectations. If you think you know what will happen, trust me you don’t. An outstanding written piece of work.

Characters: Ember she still has kept her smart way of going on, with great comebacks but in this story it’s lovely to see her more vulnerable side, the heart ache she experiences is truly heart wrenching and the author delivers it with a blow that will make you shed tears.

Eli: Hot hot hot, and so complicated but damaged also, he’s interesting but not a Romeo by any means no flowers, no sweet words but for Ember he is her other half in my eyes, the two just make sense. The love between them isn’t gentle or patient it’s trying to clay its way out of them while both of them resist, fighting for self-preservation, but as they say love conquers all.

The author’s style of writing is raw talent, it’s different even quirky. I am a true fan and she tops my list of my favourite Indie Authors.

Read, Review and Promote

Image

As an author we all find it hard to get our work reviewed, mostly other indie authors do it like myself (www.reviewoffantasy.com) but once in awhile a reader with a passion will read, review and promote our work, the reader of our dreams I say.

So I wanted to do a post on one of them, her name is Lynn and here is a bit about her lovely self:

I'm 39 and from Paisley, Scotland. Single, no children, no pets. I've loved reading since I was a kid when bedtime stories from my dad were from JRR Tolkein. Every summer holiday, you'd find me in the library with Enid Blyton and Stephen King. At school, like everyone else I was reading Sweet Valley High. I lost the love of reading when I got to college and work, ending up too tired and stressed. It was discovering Harry Potter in 2001 through a work friend that brought me back to reading as I became addicted to the books. I first got Internet access in 2003 and stumbled onto Goodreads when I was looking for books with paranormal monsters. That's when I discovered urban fantasy and started reading Kelley Armstrong, Charlaine Harris and Patricia Briggs. Now I'm on Goodreads daily.
Favourite genres-urban fantasy, horror, dystopian, paranormal-adult and YA,Tudor fiction, mountain disaster NF.
Sometimes read: I read the odd book in other genres if the plot grabs me. ie fantasy, thriller and non fiction about WWII, American Civil War and historical events, Greek, Roman and Norse mythology.
Don't read-crime, romance, erotic, western, historical/family sagas
Reviewing: I do a lot of read and review of Indie authors and then try to promote the authors I've met through this and book groups. Even if I don't read their books myself, I like to promote them to other people that might be interested. Now I'm trying to feature Indie Authors on my blog and I'm always looking for more who are interested.
previous jobs: football steward, airline security for American Airlines, pathology lab technician
TV/film: I watch sport a lot and support my local football team St Mirren, Texas Rangers for baseball, New Orleans Saints for American football, the England cricket team and I love darts and the Winter Olympics. I love horror and action films. I watch lots of series like Buffy, Angel, Grimm, Supernatural, The West Wing, Alias, Miami Vice, Deadliest Catch, Nikita, 24, Lost,The Tudors,The Borgias. I'm way behind on most new series because of my reading.
hobbies: photography, making news scrapbooks, music, I'm hoping to get started on making a quilt this winter if time allows
stupid facts: I'm scared rigid of spiders, wasps and horrible hairy wee beasties,
(Im not on any social networking sites)

Review of The First Book of Carrie

Review of The First Book of Carrie
(1st Review for August)
Rating: 3.5 stars

I received this book from the author for an honest review.
I found the plot similar to a few angel and humans integration stories. But with this book it was more focused on the demon aspect of it, which gave it a new kind of take.

Carrie having a demon inside her is not your usual main character. She’s not the one who has evil inside her but fights it, no in fact she commits horrible acts, and enjoys every second of the misery she causes the only humane part in her is brought out by a boy called Noah. Her aunts and mother are also born with a demon inside them and the crimes they commit are horrible, living for centuries gives them a head start above Carrie to cause havoc, misery and basically make people sin.

There is an interesting question in the book that stayed with me long after putting the book down. When Carries mother asks her “What makes someone a good person?”
This really got me thinking and when Carrie responds with people like the pastor or a neighbour who takes in homeless children I had to agree with Carrie’s assessment only to have it shattered by her mother’s response. The so called good neighbour taking in all the homeless children was sexually abusing them and worse, the pastor a greedy thief. So was it really a curse that Carrie could see beyond the surface into the souls of humans even if she feed off their sin, or a gift?
The concept was very interesting and like I said it got me thinking a lot about what makes someone a good person.

The only downside to this story was there was too much dialogue I understand the aunts and her mother’s past lives had to be shared but at times it felt like I spent more times in the past then the present.

I will definitely read book two, to see what happens.

A Mystical Love Story Gone Right

Boy meets girl, girl and boy fall in love, boy must help girl save the kingdom. This story has everything a love story should have. A beautiful girl who has the world at her feet except for a boy to love her and not her crown. The handsome boy has nothing. His family and village disperse him and think that he is the devil incarnate until he meets the girl of his dreams. Together can they save the kingdom from the real evil?

I love this story and the author did a fantastic job with the characters. Not just the human characters but the animals as well. The entire cast gelled together to make the plot exceptional. When an author can make animals seem so real with their mystical powers, as the reader is brought into the story, it makes for a powerful duo.

It was a predictable story with a predictable ending. There was not real guessing as to what could happen next but I have to say I loved that about this book. Sometimes it is best to keep it simple. There definitely needs to be a follow-up to this book.

Review of Hope(less)

Review of Hope(Less)
(5th Review for July)
Rating: 5 stars

O god this was one of those books that I was screaming at 95% the way through and then the last 5% made it all okay.

Okay where to start firstly I loved Gabby she was a loner who always kept herself at a distance, which I didn’t blame her, we all love male attention but the attention that Gabby received was creepy and unnatural. I could understand her distancing herself from the world, also being switched from foster home to foster home did nothing to help her trust issues, so when Gabby comes across Sam a werewolf she starts to find some answers to her unnatural gifts (which I think are pretty cool)  this isn’t your normal irritating werewolf story, we see it as finding a group of people within their own world with their own rules, it’s fascinating it’s not this is my pack against your pack but how one pack operates I loved learning and watching Gabby grow with them, even though she is kind of human. My feelings on Sam I am still unsure feeling very disappointed in him, for not being totally honest with Gabby when what she needed was someone she could truly trust. But when she is marked by Clay the story gets interesting and this is where I started screaming at every single page.

It’s the weirdest love story I have ever read Clay being a werewolf seems to understand Gabby more than she does herself so he takes matters into his own hands not wanting to frighten her, I don’t want to say too much and give the story away but I will say for 95% of the book he says nothing – really I am not messing nothing but he doesn’t need to his actions speak louder than words, but when he does speak my stomach did a little flop and I let out a sigh, yes it was worth waiting for, just a line or two and I was in love.

So basically when I finished I felt the story was only getting started and I want the second book like now. Just can’t wait to read it. Very unusual story but one that brings love forward as something gentle and patient yet with enough roughness to me you sigh sigh sigh. Love it.

Review of The Escape of Princess Madeline

Review of The escape of Princess Madeline.

Rating 5 stars
(4th Review for July)

The book was given to me from the author for an honest review.

Firstly this was just like sleeping beauty, snow white or little red riding hood. A fairy tale that our parents read to us before bed-time, maybe the escape of Princess Madeline is the re-telling of a fairy-tale, I am not sure but just loved it, it made me feel like a child again. This is one to have on your fairy-tale book shelf.
Madeline a princess is being married off, but doesn’t want the life of a princess she wants adventure while her father pushes her harder into what is right for the Kingdom. At first Madeline rebels in small ways not wearing a dress laid out for her, being rude to guests but the King soon pushes too hard and Madeline escapes the Kingdom going on an unexpected adventure one she hadn’t exactly been dreaming about, she gets kidnapped by bandits.
Knights are dispatched to find Princess Madeline. Daniel is amongst them, the one who loves the princess not because of her status but because of the person she is.

The author takes us on a magical journey of the Kingdom with adventure and mostly love. An enchanting story one that all young girls “Princess’s” should read or even for some of us that never grew up. (Guilty)

Thank you for allowing me to read your work.
