Spotlight for Heart of the Witch - By Judy Goodwin

Image

Synopsis:

Zerrick's fears are closing in on him. A local girl has been accused of witchcraft. There are murmurs of a cursed illness in town. And Zerrick's father, the town Reverend, has announced that he is leading a vendetta against magic and will burn them at the stake.

The problem is, Zerrick is the witch.

This is the start of what will be a monumental journey for Zerrick, to answer the question that most plagues him. His people, colonists in the land of Argessa, think that magic is evil, yet the native tribes use it as a tool for good. As he travels deep into the land, Zerrick must decide for himself if he is damned or blessed. A woman, an old scout, and a funny little creature will all help him face his worst nightmare, the Ravenger, a demon of unspeakable power.

In the end, he'll find the heart of magic.
About the land of Argessa:
"At first glance with the witch hunts you might think this is an alternate America, but if you look closer, you'll find things are different. Outside the town walls are wild jungles. The natives have black curly hair and beards. In fact, I based Argessa on Australia in the Queensland region, so when Zerrick makes his journey, he travels through rainforest and jungle eventually into wild brushlands and finally into desert. The Put-na, the native people, are loosely based on Aborigine, as is their language."
About the cover:
"I worked with a Brazillian artist, Lucas Pandolfelli, for the cover illustration of the book. He was excited to depict a critical scene near the end, where Zerrick faces the Ravenger, a demon who works for Angist, the god of evil.

Judy Goodwin has been writing for several years in between being a single mother and writing as a technical consultant. Her short stories have appeared in magazines, She writes primarily fantasy, science fiction and humor. When not writing, Judy enjoys visiting local festivals, volunteering for the Arizona Animal Welfare League, and reading history books. She currently lives in Gilbert with her daughter and far too many dogs and cats.
From the Author:
Heart of the Witch, an epic fantasy novel:
"I came up with the idea for this book as a way to explore a fantasy setting outside the tired old medieval castle with the knight and the princess. By setting my world in a slightly later time frame--the 1600's, it gave me a whole new set of problems to work with. Colonialism. The pushing out of native people. Exploration of a new continent. And witch hunts. There could still be magic, there could still be monsters and quests and fair ladies, but I thought this could be a fresh new spin on old tired themes."

Spotlight ofr Reality by Author Dani Hart

Image
I am Arie Belle and up until my mother’s unexpected and mysterious death my life had been pretty simple, but then things became dark and, at times, hopeless. Even my uncanny ability to communicate with nature had turned its back on me. My only saving grace is my lifetime friendship with the boy next door, River, whom I had always thought of as my soul mate up until my eighteenth birthday when everything seemed to change. My body tingles with heightened sensations and my emotions veer out of control. They are further tested when Ashe, a beautiful stranger with a powerful draw, enters my life and challenges my heart and soul. Amidst the rush of feelings after years of numbness, my true destiny slowly unravels and my journey to find out what I am, to find my mother’s killer, and stop my own death becomes a frantic rush before the next full moon.
This powerful story encaptures the true meaning of love and the dark corners of life that can either suck you in or save you.

I love reading and have my sister-in-law to thank for all the great finds! She’s deep into romance and supernatural and always sends the good stuff my way. I guess you can say she’s my reviewer/filter! Why supernatural for me? I don’t do reality. Let’s face it, we are surrounded by reality every day and I don’t need to immerse myself into it while reading too! I want the suspension of disbelief! I want to be taken somewhere else and know that it’s not real and is all in fun!
I received my bachelor’s at USC in theatre with an unofficial minor in writing and I am currently in a post-graduate program at CSUCI working on my Math credential. And, yes, I did just say Math! Crazy, I know! Exhausting too! Only 1 more year until I can officially teach!
My passions include reading and especially writing. Growing up I was the child in the corner reading alone like a little hermit. I guess they label it as anti-social these days. I also grew up writing in diaries, then poetry, then short stories. While at USC I wrote my first screenplay and post-graduation I was hired to write another screenplay, which I did successfully. I have since started several books, but have never had the courage or time to finish. That’s changing as of now! I missed it, but I had convinced myself I was too busy and it would be a waste of time. Really, I was just discouraged from my years in the industry and I was scared to go back. Then I started reading again and it sparked my passion and true calling. I started writing a story that had been brewing inside of me over the years. The characters were slowly developing and itching to break out onto paper. In the summer of 2011 I wrote the first chapter and started the second chapter. Then life got busy again and my passion was pushed aside. Sad right? Then I met an amazing person who loved my story and encouraged me to start writing again. With that said, I am in a happier place now. I am fulfilling my inner desire and passion to write. Thank you so much for your support! And I hope to keep the stories coming!!

Bio:
I'm a fan of story. Full stop. Science Fiction & Fantasy, in particular. The ability to create fantastical worlds and explore them through the eyes of heroic or tragic characters has always fascinated me.

I can trace my passion for reading back to my mother, who handed me my first fantasy fiction paperback at age twelve and told me that “I’d like it”. As to writing, I have my father to thank for that. He spent countless hours with me in front of a clunky word processor and told me that “I’d get it.” Turns out all these years later, they were right!

I'm excited to bring my first fantasy fiction trilogy to life - The Rithhek Cage. The first book (The Cloudstone Key) will be available online in late August 2013.

Review of Dare you to

 Dare you to

3.5 stars

www.reviewoffantasy.com
(1st review for September)

I picked this book up in the young adult section thinking it was fantasy, I was wrong.

It’s based around a dysfunctional girl called Beth whose father and mother where addicts and there is a strong element of neglect that soaks this sad tale. Yet I found humour in it, as Beth was funny that’s angry funny but more times I just felt sorry for her and her messed up life. Once a perfect girl now a young woman who takes drugs, drinks and smokes, she pretty much screams at the world for the injustice of her life, but really she never helps herself until she is sent to live with her uncle where she meets Ryan the school Jock who has been dared to get her number. He seems to have the perfect life but behind closed doors his life is controlled by his parents who hate each other. It’s all about keeping up appearances with his family.

So when Beth and Ryan meet they soon start to fall for each other taking five steps forward and ten back. It’s a bit draining but they are pretty messed up.

An enjoyable read just a little too heavy for me.

Growing up in Houston, Texas, Andrea has always enjoyed creating characters and stories. But it wasn't until she was in her late twenties that she started writing novels.

What happened that ignited the writing flame in her fingers? Divorced, and disillusioned by love songs and stories. They exaggerate. She thought. Love and Romance are not like that in the real world. Then she met her husband and realized, yes love and romance are exactly like the songs and stories say. She is now a happy wife, and a mom to three kids (two boys and a girl).

Once she heard about a writer who never let her characters deviate from the script. If they did, she just killed them. How sad, she thought. For her one of the best parts of being a writer is letting the characters have a mind of their own and seeing where the story takes them.

She loves this quote from Robert Frost, which sums up her opinion on allowing the characters their freedom: “No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader.”
― Robert Frost

Andrea writes fantasy, paranormal and historical romance. When not writing or reading, one may find Andrea dancing in Zumba.

She is excited to work with Crimson Romance on her forthcoming debut paranormal romance, The Garnet Dagger. Everyone knows what happens when a vampire bites a human...but what if the victim is Elvin?

Viking Fire is a forthcoming historical romance set in Ireland during the Dark Ages. What if you were engaged to marry your enemy-a Viking?

She hopes you will enjoy the stories as much as she did writing them.

She believes in the power of change and counting each moment as a blessing. But most importantly, she believes in love.
Even if she has to fight for it.Andrea R. Cooper

Saying a big tHANK YOU to bloggers who help authors

Bloggers and book reviewers help us author in such a huge way, telling the world about our work and promoting it for us. So I wanted to give something back and say a huge thanks to Camelle blogger of home of a book lover.  I contacted Camelle and got her to share some information about herself and why she started reviewing and promoting authors.

Image
Hi, I’m Camelle a blogger from the Philippines. I love reading books so much it makes me feel like I’m travelling in a different world and it makes me relax. I love meeting people with a common interest so we can talk about the books we’ve read and we can share it.
Blogging is one of my favorite thing to do, but sometimes I don’t know what to post, my ideas are jumbled like a puzzle with missing pieces. I have different topics in mind and I can’t focus on one. Then I suddenly think of doing reviews, it took me months to finalize my decision, and I got inspired with one of the Filipino bloggers here, I won in her contest and I saw her blog and thoughts about the books she read and that’s when I started thinking straight, at first I asked her to teach me some stuff and she has a very kind soul. So from then, I decided to build my own blog and design everything. It’s not an easy task, I have to consider so many things and one is my favorite color so I use purple there as you notice. I started doing reviews too and she inspire me to keep going.
First few months of my blogging is not good, I have to try gathering readers and I’m sad if I saw no one’s reading but then I didn’t give up. I started to join memes, get more book reviews from authors or publishers. I’m trying to gain the trust of every person I talked to. I didn’t give up and time flies by so fast. I’m not that contented with my readers of course, I wanna know more about their thoughts in my review and everything else, but I’m just glad I gained followers and people are really reading my blog. And now I got featured, thank you so much Aoife Marie Sheridan for this. It’s really awesome.
My blog is turning one year in December so watch out for news about it. I didn’t know I can make it this far and I’m happy with my work but then I have to learn more and keep trying. I don’t wanna be contented coz contentment will lead me to nothingness, if I’m contented with what I have right now, there may be no more followers/readers, they will not gain.
By the way more about me? I’m 21 years old. A graduate of Software Engineering and I’m working now in one of the IT company here in the Philippines. I can play a guitar (just a bit), aside from blogging music is my favorite and I sing a bit. Well, I love my blog so much even though I have a hectic schedule at work I always find time to update it and of course reading. I can’t blog if I don’t read. I’m glad to be one of the book bloggers and to be featured here makes me really happy. Thank you so much guys!
