Review for Laurie Lyons Author of Feather

Feather

Star rating: 3 stars

The start of the story I was enthralled with Lucy a girl with photogenic memory, who was of course a genius and very interesting to watch as she moves through campus life. But then she meets Nat a guy with no memory. Lucy instantly falls for him, but there’s one catch no-one can see him but Lucy. So we watch them bond and soon learn that he’s an angel. This brought me up to 40% of the book and that’s when I stopped being intrigued and excited, as the rest was mostly a love story.
We do have a few surprises when we visit Lucy’s mum and we also get to see where Nat goes when he’s not with Lucy.
The love story itself was  very well written and a beautiful  story at that, but it just wasn’t’ for me as I prefer more action, a man to be a little rough, confusing and dark, but where Nat was a kind, caring loving person who smiled and laughed throughout the book.

Now saying all that I really liked Roman and would definitely read a story from his perspective, loved his aggression. (I know it’s so wrong).

Anyway overall an easy read. So if you like paranormal with the love story taking the lead then feather is for you.

Synopsis:

Miranda Moon's vivid imagination has gotten her into trouble more times than she can count. This time, she's been suspended from school. So her straight-laced younger brother, Marcus, blames her when they're relegated to their late grandparents' old cabin over Halloween weekend. But when Miranda finds a curious trinket, they're mysteriously whisked away to Wunderwood, where magic flows through the trees and everyone already knows their family name. A place even Miranda never imagined.

Just as they arrive, a sinister warlock, Thornton Crow, is freed from a long banishment. He resumes his deadly agenda to find The Tree of Mindala, the source of all the realm's magic. As Miranda and Marcus discover branches of their own family tree that they hadn't even known existed, they learn that Thornton has a score to settle with anyone in their bloodline. Especially them... When Miranda discovers her own role in Thornton's release, she knows it's up to her to stop him from stealing not just magic, but also hope. With travel companions that could as easily be foes as friends, and only the cryptic words of a prophecy to guide her, Miranda must decide if she can carry out the task that will either save Wunderwood... or doom it forever.

I'm the author of the Tree of Mindala, a middle grade fantasy. It's the first in my Wunderwood series.

My love of reading began with classics such as L. Frank Baum's Oz books and C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. The endless hours of enjoyment that they, and countless others, gave me sparked my passion for writing. I hope that my stories will help instill in children a lifelong love of reading as well as the knowledge that imagination has no limits.

I am currently working on the second installment of the Wunderwood series. I live in Wisconsin with my husband and two young sons, none of whom are in a hurry to grow up. And that's just fine with me!

Review of Lichgates by S.M Boyce

Review of Lichgates
3rd review for November
Star rating: 4 stars

Loved it, a really good read. I loved the world building and was awed by what S.M Boyce created, let alone the world itself, the creatures and different species that belonged to each separate Kingdom was fascinating. My favourite was the Kingdom of Lousse that was underwater, it was amazingly described. Braeden was such an interesting character he was the root of all evil in a sense, yet his compassion and kindness to Kara was well breath-taking. I loved how he became her protector for different reasons throughout the book, until he realised his feeling for her. He was scary when he got mad but something else when he was Kind.

Kara was a great character funny, sarcastic I love sarcasm but more than anything she was a warrior born to the mortal world but was made the vagabond. There are still so many things unanswered like what her dad wanted her to find, so I will have to read the second book to find out but i think there bloodline wasn't always mortal.

The plot was well thought out, and is only revving up so the next book we shall see the Vagabond in full action, and what choice Braeden will make with his own Kingdom.

The most amazing part of this story was the world building every page came with a new place and it had its own uniqueness, as we visited each kingdom I became awed by the world that S.M Boyce built, she is a masterful storyteller and I got lost in Lichgates and am eager to see what will happen.

Review of Darkening Chaos by DelSheree Gladden

Darkening Chaos (The Destroyer Trilogy, #3)

Darkening Chaos (Book 3)
Star Rating: 4 Stars
(2nd Review for November)

www.reviewoffantasy.com

Reviewer: TAMRA

A Captured Triumph

Once again Libby the Destroyer, has continued to gain in power and knowledge.  To defeat the evil President and his army she must first find out how to unlock her full powers and train the ciphers.  Her plans go awry when she is captured with the help of one of her friends.  She must now wait for 8 months in captivity until her 18th birthday to confront the true villain, the President.

Once again DelSheree Gladden was able to keep the action going in this last book of the trilogy.  Never once did "The Darkening Chaos" become boring or strained in the plot.  There was a fluidity to it that keeps the reader enthralled and striving to find out what happens next.  Even when Libby is imprisoned for 8 months the plot never faltered or became boring.  The author somehow seemed to make the book ebb and flow.

I only found a couple of mistakes in the book which did nothing to alter my enjoyment.  I seemed to have visually seen them but skip over them with no questioning glance.  I am stills surprised that the plot did not falter in any of the books and that the characters were maintained throughout them also.  They were written with clarity and you felt compelled to like all the good guys and understood for the bad guys because they were so  misled

Overall a very exciting trilogy that I encourage anyone who likes paranormal books to read.  You will not want to put them down.

Review of Desires by Roxanne Rose

Review of Desires (A Legacy Novel)
1st Review for November
Rating 4.5 Stars

I loved that this story was based in Ireland. I couldn’t help but smile when Tara was mentioned I live twenty minutes from it, or the river Boyne that I swam in as a child. Roxanne Rose made Ireland seem magical and the legends of the Goddess didn’t seem so out of place on such descriptive lands.
This book may seem like a light read but the horror in it is not light by any means, it goes from an innocent child to a scene that would tighten your stomach.

Elean – I was very unsure of her at the start as she whined too much for my likings but as the story developed I watched a child grow into a woman, and a woman into a queen. Elean became a woman to admire and respect as she overcame so much horror, it was remarkable.

Liam and James well I’m not sure which one I loved more, as they were both fit to be the King, and Elean’s lover. But James seemed to use his head more than Liam. Liam would charge into battle not thinking but I found with James he showed true strength especially with Connor, how he stood by as Elean and Brigit where led to the healer it just showed exactly how much he loved her, as her safety came first no matter how much he needed to protect her. Liam’s love was shown in a different way and we see it in him until the last chapter.

Morrigan and Greagoir where disgusting filthy creatures and at times I found it hard to stomach the things they did or wanted to do.

Overall an amazing and well written story, the story is far from over and I look forward to reading Malevolence.
